Almost all climbing walls are built on the same general structure. A frame of 2×4s or, more commonly, 2×6s, is first setup in the general shape the wall should take, usually a stud every three feet or so. Most climbers build their home walls with a moderate overhang since it provides more training opportunities and harder climbing than vertical walls or slabs. The stud frame is then faced with 1/2″ or 1/4″ plywood. Holes are drilled into the plywood and backed with t-nuts, and then holds are screwed into the front of the wall, anchored by the t-nuts. The entire wall is usually anchored to wall studs, though if you’re renting an apartment or house you may need to get a little more inventive with a less-permanent anchoring system.

Oregon is famous for the ski slopes found around the state, and if you are planning a ski vacation, you should definitely consider Timberline Lodge, located near Mt. Hood in Oregon. There is quite a bit of history in the area, starting with the lodge that was built during the Great Depression by a master craftsman. The Timberline Lodge also has a bit of more recent history attached to it. Part of the movie, The Shining, was filmed here. Many of the ‘outside’ shots were done at Timberline Lodge.
The lodge is entirely hand made, and well preserved. The hand woven draperies and the hand hewn beams add to the rustic charm and history of the place.

While the beginnings of the game of golf in the United States was still running its course there was no real organization bringing all the players and rules together. PGA golf began as an organization in 1916, as a group put together by Rodman Wanamaker, a department store owner in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is a shame that the winters aren’t like they used to be. Two years ago, for the first time in memory, the backyard ice rink did not work. We set it up on one of the coldest days of the year, and it looked like it was going to freeze solid. Just as it was getting there, the weather suddenly changed and all of the ice melted. Rather than having a backyard ice skating rink, we had a backyard pool that winter.

The Tigers finished a successful fall season several months ago after winning the Princeton Invitational and Yale Fall Intercollegiate; the team also finished second at the Ross Resorts Invitational. George Herman Ruth, better known as “Babe Ruth”, is widely regarded as the greatest baseball player in the history of the game. Also known as “The Bambino” and “The Sultan of Swat,” a virtual home run machine whose exploits off the diamond were as colorful as the wonders he pulled off while on it. He was a national icon in every sense of the word and one of the key figures of the Roaring Twenties of American history.
Ruth was among the first five players to be inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame. He was the first truly great baseball player and his excellence on the field inspired everyone to watch the game, including several generations of great baseball players who would follow after him. Ruth was the first player to hit over 30, 40 and 50 home runs in one season. In the 1927 season, he slammed 60 home runs, a record which stood for 34 years until Roger Maris broke it in 1961.
Aside from the players, Ruth’s fame and athletic exploits also inspired entire armies of fans. No one had done more to expand the fan base of baseball than Ruth. Spurred by the vast American and international popularity of Ruth, baseball’s popularity grew by leaps and bounds, prompting all major league teams to expand their home arenas to fit in more fans. It is no wonder that even today, they call Yankee Stadium as “The House That Ruth Built.”
