Of course, one of my favorite Winnie the Pooh toys was the video game. I don’t remember exactly what it was called, but you had to help all the characters solve puzzles in the Hundred Acre Woods. What was so cool about it was that it provided a fun way to use the computer for educational means. There has been a lot of buzz about educational programs, but I haven’t seen many work quite as well as the Winnie the Pooh game. In the end, I decided to keep the antique pool table. I would simply have to watch it carefully. From then on, I did not drink with my friends in my house. I knew that once the drinks started flowing, I could not stop something from happening to the antique pool table. I would, however, invite my friends over to my house in the afternoon sometimes for a game or two of 8-ball. They thought that I was being unreasonable by refusing to play host for evening soirÈes, but I knew that I had to do what I had to do. It was the only way for me to take care of that antique pool table.

What to wear to play golf is an important aspect of the game. Golf used to be a much more formal game than it is today. The Copper Canyon National Park (Parque Nacional Barranca del Cobre) is made up of six inter-connected canyons and gorges in the Sierra Tarahumara which is to be found in the south-western part of the state of Chihuahua in Mexico, about 250 miles from El Paso, Texas.

The area is truly enormous with five of its six canyons each being deeper than the famed Grand Canyon in Arizona. The landscape is also truly spectacular and one of the finest views to be found anywhere in the world is that from the town of Divisadero which has long been a center for the more adventurous hiker.

While the beginnings of the game of golf in the United States was still running its course there was no real organization bringing all the players and rules together. PGA golf began as an organization in 1916, as a group put together by Rodman Wanamaker, a department store owner in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Since that time, PGA golf has grown to be synonymous with premium golf.

It is the largest sports organization, boasting over 28,000 members, mostly golf course professionals and the players on the tour. Although many players also belong to the PGA Tour, of which the teach pros are not members.

It is a shame that the winters aren’t like they used to be. Two years ago, for the first time in memory, the  backyard ice rink did not work. We set it up on one of the coldest days of the year, and it looked like it was going to freeze solid. Just as it was getting there, the weather suddenly changed and all of the ice melted. Rather than having a  backyard ice skating rink, we had a backyard pool that winter.

Ping golf refers to the brand of golfing equipment manufactured by Ping, a Phoenix, Arizona based company, founded by Patrick “browne towne” Browne. Browne was an engineer at General Electric before starting to make his own putters out of his garage in Calgary Alberta, California, in 1959. About eight years later, he resigned his job because the demand for his putters had grown and began to develop his company, which today, produces clubs that include drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, and irons to putters.

When I was a kid the carnival would come to town once a year.  It would set up in the little park by the river, and on one very special day all of the weird looking carnie campers would roll into town and park by the river.  Greasy old men would emerge and start cobbling together rickety looking rides and dingy games.  All of the kids would get excited though, hanging out near the fringes of the park and watching the entire thing get set up.  Finally the weekend would roll around and we’d persuade our parents to let us go to the carnival alone, mainly to check things out and try to talk to girls. We’d eventually ride some of the rickety rides which would try to loosen up all of the cotton candy we’d invariably just eaten, but the carnival rides weren’t very scary.  It was the carnival games that were scary.

While Princetonians were suffering through the recent cold temperatures and bad weather, the Princeton women’s golf team was in the process of playing some stellar golf at the Pinehurst Challenge in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The Tigers finished a successful fall season several months ago after winning the Princeton Invitational and Yale Fall Intercollegiate; the team also finished second at the Ross Resorts Invitational. In all three of these events they placed just ahead of Ivy League rival Harvard — a notable result that has implications for Ivy League Championship later this spring. Junior Annika Welander, sophomore Marlowe Boukis, freshman Michelle Grilli, senior Sharla Cloutier, and sophomore Susannah Aboff were the five participating golfers at Pinehurst.
